Independent freight guide

Road freight

Road transport is flexible over short and medium distances and often provides the first or final leg of an ocean, rail or air route. A suitable vehicle and accurate loading information matter as much as the distance.

Full or part load

FTL gives one shipper the planned vehicle capacity and is useful for larger, sensitive or time-critical lots. LTL combines several consignments and may be economical for smaller cargo, with extra terminal handling and a broader delivery window.

Choose by cargo, not by name

Curtainsiders serve ordinary pallets, reefers maintain temperature, and platforms support top-loaded or outsized pieces. Check package dimensions, axle loads, loading method, stacking rules and access at both warehouses.

Information for a quotation

  • full addresses and opening hours;
  • weight and dimensions of every package;
  • packaging and stacking limits;
  • temperature, seal and securing requirements;
  • cargo-ready and required-delivery dates.
Ask whether waiting time, toll roads, ferry charges, documents and restricted-site access are included in the rate.

Comparing road freight offers

Every provider needs the same addresses, dates, package list, dimensions, cargo properties, loading method and vehicle requirements. Vague descriptions produce quotations that cannot be compared and often exclude different operations.

Documents and cargo safety

Agree the booking, transport document, cargo details and acceptance process before collection. For international transport, the document set depends on the countries, commodity and customs procedure. Check weight distribution, axle limits, packaging and securing as one system.

  1. Describe each package and loading condition.
  2. Choose between a full and part load.
  3. Compare route, total cost and risk.
  4. Confirm documents and responsibilities.
  5. Record all agreed conditions before dispatch.
